Subject Associations provide professional development and a supportive network of subject specialists.
Not all countries have specialist professional associations and in the UK many are run by volunteers with perhaps a tiny number of paid staff. The associations often are also linked to international subject associations. Should you wish to start up an association in your country then we would expect existing associations in other countries to be willing to give you advice or to work in some sort of partnership.
In the UK, examples of school teaching focused professional associations include the Association of Teachers of Mathematics, and the Mathematical Association. The Joint Mathematical Council in the United Kingdom brings together a wide range of mathematical professional associations.
