Curriculum

A factor that is considered to have played a role in the lower attainment of Black children is an exclusionary National Curriculum which ignores the culturally diverse backgrounds of Black and other minority ethnic students.

Messages of Black inferiority conveyed in the curriculum through lack of inclusion of Black cultures/non-valuing of Black people or recognition of the length of time (e.g. since Roman and Elizabethan times) some Black people have been in the UK and their contribution to its economic development. Instead emphasis is on slavery as opposed to contributions to world civilisation.
